Well, there was a wall there, but it was just plain painted wall, the same chalky white as the rest of the room.. Here’s how it used to look.. You know what?
And, actually, it often stays out all year long because it’s just so cute and natural-looking..If you’d like to make your own, all you need is a cheap bag of plastic eggs and a bag of craft moss.

You can usually find each of these at the dollar store and you’ll probably be able to make several topiaries with these supplies..So, you start out with some basic plastic eggs.Grab your hot glue gun and start gluing them together.

You’ll want to make a ring of about 4 eggs on the bottom and then start building up from there.I like to make sure they look a little random.

It’s really quick and easy to get a nice shape and you really don’t need to shell out the $10-$15 that those foam forms can sometimes cost.. Next, you’ll need to paint it!
To get this natural look, I used some antique white craft paint. So much easier for kids to see everything and it’s a simple enough system that they might even put the legos away on their own!OK, let me just start out by saying that if I was in charge of this chalkboard project, then I absolutely would have gone ahead and done a shoddy job of it.
I ended up asking Chris to make this for Kennedy’s room though, so of course he went and turned a quick little project into a whole.I usually get pretty annoyed when this happens (and it always happens), but this time the extra effort was definitely worth it.
I love how this chalkboard turned out!.If you’ve been thinking about building yourself a custom-sized chalkboard, why not go ahead and make something that’s going to look great and really last?
